SIEW 2014

Held between 27 October and 31 October, SIEW 2014 focused on the theme “Building Energy Connections”. It was attended by over 10,000 policymakers, business leaders, academics and industry players hailing from over 60 countries.

  • Mr S. Iswaran, Minister, Prime Minister’s Office & Second Minister for Ministry of Home Affairs & Ministry of Trade & Industry Singapore gave the SIEW Opening Remarks and announced the S$25 million Energy Storage Programme to enhance the stability of Singapore’s Power System, and the S$20 million Energy Training Fund to support the development of Singaporean power sector workers.
  • For the first time, the SIEW Opening Keynote Address was delivered by 2 distinguished speakers Dr Leonhard Birnbaum, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of E.ON Global Commodities, SE and Member of the Board of Management – Markets, Services and Dr Ahmad Belhoul, Chief Executive Officer, Masdar.
  • Maria van der Hoeven, Executive Director, International Energy Agency (IEA) delivered the Singapore Energy Summit Lunch Keynote and said collaboration and connections are vital for countries to tackle energy challenges.
  • Singapore Energy Summit - Session 1: Shaping Asia’s Energy Connections panellists shared that Southeast Asia is steadily making its way towards regional energy interconnectivity but implementing a consistent legal and regulatory framework remains one of the biggest hurdles.
  • Singapore Energy Summit - Session 2: Balancing tomorrow’s energy choices panellists offered their insights on the number of energy choices across Asia.
  • Singapore Energy Summit - Session 3: Maximising the potential of renewables panellists discussed how government regulation and participation by industry players have important roles to play in increasing the use of renewables and integrating them into the national energy systems.
  • Singapore Energy Summit - Session 4: Energy Technologies and Sustainability discussed the role of clean energy technology in addressing Asia’s rising energy demands.
  • Youth@SIEW – More than 250 energy-conscious students joined S. Iswaran, Second Minister for Home Affairs and Trade and Industry, and Peter Schwartz, Senior Vice President, Global Government Relations and Strategic Planning for the In Dialogue with Youth this year. A total of 19 projects from 19 institutions were featured at this year’s Youth Energy Showcase.
  • SIEW Thinktank Roundtables – A total of 8 leading Thinktank roundtables were organized drawing strong interest and support from key international organisations.
