The deal sealed at the recent Durban climate change talks to develop a legally binding climate agreement holds much promise, but more immediate policy action and collaboration is crucial to ensure the sustainable growth of the energy sector.

At the recent FT Global Energy Leaders Summit in the UK, EMA's Chief Executive Chee Hong Tat spoke at length on Singapore's multi-pronged approach to securing its energy future, from promoting market competition and investing in R&D, to harnessing energy efficiency and facilitating greater international exchange and collaboration.

On 27 June 2011, Singapore announced that it would be committing S$400 million towards spearheading R&D in urban sustainability for the city.

Singapore is on full throttle for the journey towards a green transport future with the recent launch of its electric vehicle (EV) test-bed on 25 June.
