SES session 3: Power Trends in Southeast Asia


An august panel of Energy Ministers, from Singapore to Malaysia and the Philippines, get into the hot seat to answer cutting questions from the floor at the Singapore Energy Summit 2011, Session 3.

    • HE Jose Rene Almendras, Secretary of Energy, the Philippines, shares views about the impact of Fukushima on 'nuclear renaissance' in Southeast Asia.
    • Moderator Amb K Kesavapany from the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies asks panelists for views on concrete steps that ASEAN countries can take to enhance regional energy cooperation and connectivity.
    • Minister Iswaran highlights importance of regional energy cooperation such as in joint R&D with the private-public sectors and regional electricity trading.
    • HE Dato' Sri Idris Jala, Minister in the Prime Minister's Office of Malaysia, shares the role of oil, gas and energy in his country's Economic Transformation Programme.
    • HE S Iswaran, Minister in the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister for Home Affairs and Trade & Industry, Singapore, says more ASEAN countries are likely to become energy importers as an explosive economic growth drives energy consumption.
